Should I Go to Traffic School?

Traffic Violation-Dan T. MatrafajloTraffic school is a viable option for some individuals who have been cited for new jersey traffic violations. If you go to traffic school, you will be able to reduce the amount of points are your motor vehicle driver’s record (new jersey driver’s license), and you therefore may avoid or diminish the increased auto insurance premiums that will surely follow. A New Jersey traffic ticket lawyer may be able to tell you other reasons why traffic school could be a good idea.

However, New Jersey law does not allow all those cited for traffic violations the choice to attend traffic school. Specifically, if your violation includes one or more of the following, traffic school is not an option:

  • An invalid drivers license;
  • A drug- or alcohol-related charge;
  • If you have an unpaid ticket or a failure to appear in court in the past;
  • If you attended traffic school within the last 12-24 months;
  • If the violation was for speeding more than 15 mph over the posted limit; or
  • If you were cited while driving a commercial vehicle.

If your specific situation does not permit traffic school as an option, a consultation with an experienced New Jersey traffic lawyer will provide you with other options.

Each violation has specific elements that must be proved for a conviction. The vast majority of traffic violation cases do not go to trial and therefore it is likely a deal will be offered by the prosecution.

Your experienced New Jersey traffic ticket lawyer understands both the technical and non-technical arguments for each violation that can be made to reduce the charge against you to a lesser one, or perhaps gain a dismissal.
