There are 530 Municipal Courts in the State of New Jersey. Each Municipal Court processes complaints filed against individuals who have been charged with less serious charges including traffic, local ordinance or disorderly persons violations within their boundaries. In some cases an offense that is more serious in nature may be initially filed in the Municipal Court but later transferred to the Superior Court level.
