PACE METHOD OF SPEED DETECTION, IS IT VALID?

Speeding TicketIn New Jersey the State Police increasingly are utilizing the Pace method of speed detection, as opposed to, radar or laser gun speed detection. There are very few cases that explicitly approve of such a method, however dicta in various cases seem to indirectly approve such a method. As a practical matter, judges in Newark, Elizabeth and Linden (just to name a few) do approve and will convict a motorist via PACE METHOD of speed detection. It remains to be seen what will happen, if such a conviction, is challenged in the higher courts. With that said and as a practical matter, a defendant charged with speeding, via PACE, then that motorist should assume and take the position that such a charge will stick.
