Newark Municipal Court

In New Jersey, Municipal Courts preside over minor criminal offenses, municipal ordinance violations, and parking and traffic tickets. A Municipal Court only has jurisdiction over cases that occur within the boundaries of its municipality, and more serious criminal cases like robbery, auto theft, or assault will be handled by a Superior Court, though they may be first filed at a Municipal Court and then transferred.
